Alot of people missed this little fact, but the Factions storyline acutally takes place (in game timeline) DURING the Chapter 1 storyline. More specifically during the time You are traveling through Kryta and the Jungle. See Mhelno and the Heros of Ascalon are tied into the storyline - but there is a big gap in Chapter 1. You leave them in Kryta and dont see them again til the Desert....What were they doing? ENTER FACTIONS STORYLINE - Where upon reaching Kryta with you in Tyria, Mhelno hears of the troubles in Cantha and decides to help them (and of course sends back Canthans to help you out while he is gone [Chaos in Kryta for canthan born characters]). After defeating Shiro with the Canthan's the heros meet back up with you to go Ascend.
Some think it isnt true because Mhelno Says in the quest to go over to Cantha "Now that we pushed back the Charr in Ascalon I figured We'd get a break". But this is refering to the Battle at Rin (Nolani Academy mission) Where in you use the Stormcaller to defeat the charr that wanted to siege the city. This battle would have been just a few days ago in Ingame Timeline. Also this is way before the Titans were released to attack Ascalon - so at this point Mhelno has every reason to believe Ascalon is ok, and remember, you haven't actually found out about the Mursaat/Titan plans yet so its obvious Mhelno should think that the journey is over upon settling in Kryta.
I just wonder where in this timeline Nightfall takes place.

You know, I tried to tell people that, but nobody believed me.

OK OK! You all hear about the 4th chapter, about elona and this whole country. Well you see, if elona borders the crystal desert, it must mean that it also must border a part of ascalon! FDS's MUST have originally come from elona. So rurick could be 1/16th elonian or just be a man RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO in elona for a month and got enough to buy a perfect FDS.

FDSs drop from the desert onward. Orr was a country that traded with Ascalon, likewise the nation of Elona. Likely many of the highly prized 'flaming blades' were exported as a treasure to Ascalon, who equipped its royal family and guards with them. Even if that is incorrect, you can find weapons of many types in many places. The fact only the royal guards and family wield FDSs show they are a treasure of the Ascalon's Chosen, which for all we know could have won them in wars against Orr.

When you link genuine MMORPG mechanism with lore ,everything gets screwed up
OF course it amkes no sense that a monster with no pockets, sheaths or even a weapon could drop a fds.
fds' are probably Orrian speciality,or have something to do with Orr ,because when ruric was ressed by the lich ,who was Orrian earlier ,he still kept his fds till he reached rof .that gives me goosie-bumpers.

Makaelthos, they seemed to have blocked a "part" of my theory. Let's put it this way..
"So rurick could be 1/16th elonian or just be a man 'teaser' to save up enough money to buy a perfect FDS".

It was the drakes, they ate the elonians and their FDS and migrated, then the elonians followed them through ascalon to get their swords back

I don't have a problem with this statement, I don't like the fact we've never confirmed FDSs come from Elona. Straightly statistically, there are far more FDS in Ascalon than the desert, which would say Yort is Ascalonian, not the other way around.
Until more solid evidence in ch3 is available, most of what's in this thread has a speculative basis.

LOOK AT HOW RIGHT I WAS
YOU WERE ALL WRONG, HAHA
The Savage Nornbear, a "brother" of Jora's, through spiritual bonding, is RURIK. NOW, how did they meet? As Shiro screamed when killed in Imperial Sanctum he awoke the dragon in the lake, causing Rurik's spirit to fuse with a random jingle bear running around. What Anet hasn't told anybody (big big secret) is that Jingle bears are the long lost ascendants of a rare white bear specie that used to exist in Elona and the only way to be able to fuse your spirit with a White bear/Jingle bear is to be part Elonian.

By the logic of the OP, I can deduct that the Ancient Elonians were in fact Orrians because Orrian armor drops from the chests in Fahranur. I can also conclude that there are Tengu in the Fissure of Woe because someone in my party got an Avicara armor piece from a chest (the one without needing a key - true story, was a purple), and I can conclude that Ectos should drop in Pre because ghosts=ectoplasm.

we're both wrong...
MENZIES IS MODERATELY INVOLVED BUT NOT TO THE POINT WHERE ANYTHING ABOUT HIM IS REVEALED.
...Oh, right, the topic.
To clarify it for anyone who doesn't know, Rurik wields Sohothin, which is a legendary sword which is NOT elonian.

To go to seriousness for a second in this troll-addicting thread, Sohothin's origin is actually unknown, as is the origin for it's twin and the two twin staves, the Scepter of Orr and the Staff of the Mists.
